Languages of Ancient Anatolia: Phrygian

On Monday the 16th of December PALAIA will be facilitating a special opportunity to study one of the languages of Ancient Anatolia: Phrygian! Largely preserved in fragments, Phrygian is an Indo-European language that shares many features with Ancient Greek. We will be reading a selection of documents of Old Phrygian, written with the Phrygian alphabet, New Phrygian, preserved in the Greek alphabet, as well as a newly discovered Middle Phrygian inscription. We’ll also look at passages of Herodotus and Hesychius that discuss both the Phrygian language and people.

This will be held as full-day workshop starting from 10am running until 3pm, with a break for lunch from 12pm-1pm, on the Macquarie University Campus (Location TBA).

You will also be able to join this workshop via Zoom. The Zoom link will be posted closer to the date, so keep an eye out!
